Alexander Movshovich, MD., Ph.D is a board-certified ophthalmologist in New York City. He is currently licensed to practice medicine in New York and New Jersey. Dr. Alexander Movshovich is a graduate of the Second Moscow Medical Institute. He completed his internship in internal medicine at New York Downtown Hospital. Dr. Movshovich completed his residency in ophthalmology and his Fellowship in vitreoretinal disease and surgery at Cornell University Medical College at New York Presbyterian Hospital where he is now a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology.
For the past 20 years Dr. Movshovich has researched, published, and lectured at national meetings on numerous topics in ophthalmology, including macular hole surgery, optic nerve pit, retinal detachment surgery, diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, retinal vascular occlusion, and management of dislocated intraocular lenses. Dr. Movshovich is an Associate Professor at Cornell’s Weil School of Medicine and is amongst a few physicians specializing in the most complicated cataract surgeries, including cases with pseudoexfoliation, secondary intraocular lens implantation, etc. Routinely, other surgeons refer their difficult cases to his expertise. Now, his research interest has moved toward refractive surgery and femtosecond laser-assisted keratopigmentation to change the color of the eyes.
In 1981, he was the recipient of the Laureate of the Young Moscow Scientists Association Award. This award is given for the best research project for scientists under 35 years of age. He was also the recipient of the prestigious Komsomol Prize, the highest prize given in Russia for the best scientific research work in 1983. Dr. Alexander Movshovich has been published in Investigative Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences and The Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology.
Dr. Movshovich’s reputation and skills are well known around the world due to his expertise in retinal and vitreous diseases and many patients travel from different countries for surgery in his experienced hands.
